Tim Swanwick and Clare Morris have an established track record of supporting the
development of healthcare professionals as educators, leaders and researchers. Over the past decade they have worked together on a wide range of national and international projects. Between them they have held senior strategic and operational leadership roles in the NHS, higher education institutions and third sector organisations. Their work has included the design and delivery of professional learning interventions in clinical and academic environments, strategic approaches to learning and development, and the analysis and evaluation of education, training and professional development activity.

Tim spent several years as a postgraduate dean and senor clinical adviser for Health Education England and most recently as Director of Clinical Leadership Development for the NHS Leadership Academy. He has a clinical background in general practice and a broad base of expertise in work-based learning, professional support, academic careers, leadership, and faculty development. Tim’s publications include several national reports, around 50 peer-reviewed papers and 10 books including the ABC of Clinical Leadership and ABC of Quality Improvement, Clinical Teaching Made Easy and the internationally acclaimed textbook Understanding Medical Education. Tim has held a number of academic positions over the course of his career and is currently Honorary Professor at Hull York Medical School.

Clare Morris

Clare has held a number of senior educational leadership roles in both academic and clinical environments, most recently as Professor of Medical Education Research and Development at Queen Mary University of London. As a qualitative researcher, she brings experience in in policy and curriculum analysis, observation methods and in-depth interviewing. Clare has led the design and delivery of innovative masters’ level programmes in medical education, most recently at Cambridge University. A speech and language therapist by background, she has twice been nominated for a National Teaching Excellence award, is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and 2021 winner of the Cambridge Unversity Pilkington Prize for excellence in teaching. WHAT WE DO
Education and training
We design and deliver tailored educational interventions for health and care professionals to meet your specific needs. From one-off workshops and short courses to university-accredited programmes, we can deliver in a variety of ways including face to face, on-line or through blended learning. Our approach is always learner-centred and draws on our expertise and experience in work-based learning and assessment, clinical teaching, supervision, coaching and mentoring, simulation and leadership development.

Organisational approaches to learning and development
We work with you to identify training and development needs at a departmental, organisational and system level in order to support you in formulating your local approach to learning and development. We offer expertise in strategy development, curriculum design and diverse modes of delivery. We can help you identify the most appropriate ways to deliver training and development and strengthen the skills of those with educational roles within your organisation.

Research and evaluation
We use a range of data collection and analytical methodologies to generate evidence to inform decisions on educational commissioning, design and delivery. We work with you to determine the best way of getting the answers you need, including through feasibility studies, insights research and programme evaluations. We can also support you in literature and scoping reviews and in writing up work for publication or other purposes.

In our approach to working with clients, we always seek first to deeply understand underlying issues but will then work quickly with you to develop bespoke, tailored interventions without resorting to off-the-peg solutions. We will work in partnership with you to co-produce modern approaches to learning and development that not only work in your specific context but draw on the most up-to-date evidence. In conducting programmes of research and evaluation we maintain the highest ethical standards while remaining sensitive to prevailing local and political concerns.
